DICKSON COUNTY SPEECH AND DRAMA DAY CAMP
GRADES 4-6 & 7-8 (BASED ON GRADE LEVELS FOR 07-08)
presented by the DCHS Forensic Team JUNE 9-13, 2008 9 A.M. TO 3:00 P.M.
What is Speech and Drama Day Camp?
Speech and Drama Day Camp is designed to teach young Dickson County students in grades 4-8, the skills needed to communicate effectively, speak convincingly, and perform publicly in a fun atmosphere of group and individual work, culminating in public performances on Friday, June 13, at elementary schools in the county. It is the goal of the camp that each camper will gain poise and confidence and enjoy the experience of growing as a speaker and performer.
The Camp Directors are certified teachers with degrees in Speech, Communication, and Theatre. Camp counselors include state award winners in acting, public speaking, and interpretation in contests sponsored by the National Forensic League and the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League.
What are the costs and what do they cover?
The cost of speech and drama day camp is $60 per camper and includes all class fees, materials, beverages, snacks, certificates, and awards. It does not cover lunch because the dietary needs of each camper may differ. Campers should bring a sack lunch with the camper’s name on it. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Please note dietary information on the registration form.
What should campers wear?
Campers should wear comfortable clothes, tennis shoes (not sandals or flip-flops), and socks. Campers may wish to bring a light sweater or jacket. Please label your child’s sweater or jacket.
Where will the camp be held?
Camp is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, in Dickson, across from Luther Lake, 500 Highway 70 East, at the Family Life Center of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The pick-up and drop-off area is at the right side of the building as facing it from the parking lot. Students must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian or someone designated by the parent or guardian in writing. On Friday, we will travel to perform at schools around the county and have a picnic lunch, so we will not meet at the facility that day.
